The Washington Bureau will be covering Barack Obama’s speech on Iraq and national security, a press conference where House and Senate Republican leaders will be accepting a petition signed by 1.3 million Americans, a Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee Aviation Operations, Safety, and Security Subcommittee hearing on “The Outlook for Summer Air Travel: Addressing Congestion and Delay”, a discussion with astronauts the of the STS-124 Space Shuttle crew, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer’s news briefing, a House Judiciary Committee hearing on “The Google-Yahoo Agreement and the Future of Internet Advertising”, a Transportation Security and Infrastructure Protection Subcommittee hearing on “The Next Step in Aviation Security – Cargo Security: Is DHS Implementing the Requirements of the 9/11 Law Effectively”, and The Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe’s hearing on “Guantanamo Detainees After Boumediene: Now What?”

Good morning everyone. Today at Talk Radio News it is a busy day. Hearings on Capitol Hill include the House Energy and Commerce Committee which will be taking a look at the reduction of greenhouse gases. Later in the day the House will be looking into the status of the economic stimulus payments that started a few months ago.
This afternoon the Heritage Foundation will be hosting Rep. Sue. Myrick (R-N.C.) to be addressing educating American’s of the threat of radical Islamic extremists. Affordable housing prevention and urban issues with the Urban Caucus will be taking a closer look at the child welfare system.
Lastly, the Supreme Court is set to release a set of opinions which no doubt will make news. Meredith MacKenzie will be reporting today from the Pentagon, expect updates later on.

Today at the Washington Bureau, Chief United Nations Correspondent Dan Patterson and Correspondent Dawn Jones remain in Iowa covering the floods. News Director Lovisa Frost will be covering the White House. Chief Pentagon Correspondent Meredith MacKenzie will be attending the public wake for deceased Washington Bureau Chief and Moderator of “Meet the Press” Tim Russert.
Staff will cover a full committee hearing on “the origins of aggressive interrogation techniques: Part I of the Committee’s inquiry into the treatment of detainees in U.S. Custody,” along with a full committee hearing on the challenges and regional solutions to developing transmission for renewable electricity resources. The Bureau will also cover a news conference to announce a “major new initiative to address global warming” with Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas), Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.), and Rep. Christopher Van Hollen (D-Md.). Staff will attend the full committee hearing on “Crisis in the Future: Long Run Deficits and Debt” with Congressional Budget Office Director Peter Orszag, along with a full committee hearing on “Protecting Consumers by Protecting Intellectual Property.”
Later in the day, the Bureau will attend hearing on “International Disaster Assistance: Policy Options” hosted by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and a full committee hearing on “Ensuring Legal Redress for American Victims of State-Sponsored Terrorism” hosted by the House Judiciary Committee. Staff will also attend a discussion on “Has the Effect of Foreclosures on Housing Prices Been Overstated?” hosted by The American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research (AEI).

Today, the Washington Bureau will cover a presentation by US Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy and former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright at the Organziation of American States. A news conference held by former US Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor will announce the launch of the Henry Clay Center for Statesmanship’s Student Congress, a program that will allow undergraduate students to take masters-level classes in diplomacy. An event held by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) to discuss what Democrats have done to strengthen the economy will also be covered.
In the afternoon, staff will cover an address at the Center for American Progress on US leadership in renewable energy. The American Association for the Advancement of Science’s discussion on the impacts of nuclear war will be attended on Capitol Hill. Staff members will go to an analysis of population control held by the Heritage Foundation. Lastly, the Center for Strategic and International Studies will hold a discussion of the Shiite revival in Iraq.

The Washington Bureau will also be covering the House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing on “Russia, Iran and Nuclear Weapons: Implications of the Proposed U.S.-Russia Agreement”, the Joint Economic Committee’s hearing on “The Future Costs of Funding the Iraq War”, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee’s markup of a proposed report on the investigation of contacts between the White House and former lobbyist Jack Abramoff, the Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee’s hearing on the condition of the nation’s infrastructure, which New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg will be attending, the American Assn. for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) briefing on “President Bush’s FY2009 Budget Request for Biodefense”, House Foreign Affairs Committee’s hearing on “U.S.-Japan Relations: An Overview”, the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee’s hearing on the relationship between U.S. renewable fuels policy and food prices, and the Republican press conference with Senate Leader Mitch McConnell, (R-Ky.), House Leader John Boehner, (R-Ohio), and House Whip Roy Blunt, (R-Mo.).

Talk Radio News correspondents are in New York City covering the United Nations Radio Row.
This morning, the Washington Bureau will attend a news conference announcing “Protest the Pill Day ’08” at the National Press Club, an event held by the American Life League. Following the vote on the “Lieberman-Warner Climate Security Act of 2008” in the Senate, a news conference with remarks by Sen. Joseph Lieberman (D-Conn.), Sen. John Warner (R-Va.), and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) will be attended. A joint committee meeting concerning employment in May 2008 be on Capitol Hill and a briefing on US-Chinese relations at the Center for Strategic and International Studies will also be covered.
Later in the day, the Washington Bureau will attend a presentation on the Older Americans Act held by the Leadership Council of Aging Organizations and a meeting of the Senate Oversight of Government Management, the Federal Workforce, and the District of Columbia Subcommittee which will discuss the role of the Department of State in national security.

Today at Talk Radio News Service, members of the staff will be attending the Maria Leavy Breakfast series with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.). This morning the Washington Bureau will cover a discussion by the Brookings Institute about the energy challenges the next president will face. Correspondent Dawn Jones will attend an update on ongoing security operations in Iraq. Jay Tamboli, legal affairs correspondent, will be attending a press conference with former Representative Bob Barr, who will discuss his future plans for the 2008 election. White House Correspondent Lovisa Frost will be covering briefings at the White House.
This afternoon Dawn Jones will cover a hearing on the impact of American reconstruction and anti-corruption failures on the U.S. mission in Iraq. The Washington Bureau will cover a discussion with the Brookings Institute entitled, “The Economic and National Security Implications of the U.S.-Columbia Free Trade Agreement.”

In the afternoon, former President of Indonesia His Excellency Kyai Haji Abdurrahman Wahid will be speaking at George Washington University in an interactive forum to discuss the rise of Islamic extremism on college campuses across the U.S.
