Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) is throwing his support behind a hunger strike organized on behalf of postal workers.
The act of protest is centered around a Congressional requirement to fund retirees benefits for 75 years, a mandate that has strained the Postal Service’s resources and threatened the jobs of its workers.
“We could easily protect the Postal Service if Congress would address the agency’s overpayment into its Retiree Health Benefits program,” Kucinich said in a statement.
The hunger strike, organized by Community and Postal Workers United, will be carried out by 10 “postal activists.” The organization also plans to hold a march from Postal Headquarters to the Capitol building next week, a rally at Postal Service Headquarters, and a protest at the Washington Post.
