Hoyer Concedes Dems Will “Lose Some” Over Health Care Repeal

By Gwen Fishel

At his weekly briefing  Tuesday, House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) conceded that some Democrats will join with Republicans in their attempt to repeal the Affordable Care Act this week.

“I think we’ll lose some like we did before… we’re gonna lose [the vote]. Republicans are gonna vote in lockstep,” said Hoyer.

However, Hoyer did say that he thinks that some Republicans are questioning the repeal vote, saying “there are some Republicans who are trying to figure out ‘does this make sense?’”

Hoyer emphasized that a majority of the American people would prefer fixing the Affordable Care Act to better suit their needs rather than a full scale repeal.

Calling the legislative action “all about base messaging,” Hoyer stressed that a repeal vote would not help the economy, create jobs or assist middle class Americans.
