Romney Crushes Competition In Puerto Rican GOP Primary

Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney won Puerto Rico’s GOP presidential primary by a landslide over the weekend.

The Associated Press and CNN projected Romney as the winner late Sunday evening. With 83 percent of the precincts reporting, Romney had outpaced his competition, raking in 83 percent of the vote. Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich followed with 8 and percent, respectively. Rep. Ron Pail (R-Texas) wound up the field with just one percent.

Puerto Rico has 20 delegates up for grabs and are allocated proportionally in the event candidates don’t receive more than 50 percent of the vote. However, all 20 of its delegates will be awarded to Romney given that he has won the support of more than 50 percent of Puerto Rican voters.
