The Obama campaign renewed attacks against Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s business record by releasing an ad Tuesday accusing Romney of helping outsource American jobs.
Citing a Washington Post article that detailed Bain Capital’s investments in companies that sent jobs overseas in the 90s, the ad’s narrator states that the companies ” were pioneers in outsourcing U.S. jobs to low-wage countries.”
The video contrasts Romney’s background with Obama, stating that the President believes in tax breaks aimed at bringing jobs back to America as well as policies that would secure existing jobs, such as the auto bailout.
“Outsourcing versus Insourcing. It matters,” the video says.
The ad will air in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. Last week, a Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll found that Obama has a 50 to 42 percent lead in a dozen swing states, a result that the pollster, Republican Bill McInturff, said may be due to the Obama campaign’s Bain Capital attacks.
FactCheck.org, a non-partisan project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center, evaluated a previous television commercial from President Obama in which he accuses Romney of having “shipped jobs to China and Mexico” and calls him an “outsourcer in chief,” as an “overreach.”
Evaluating Obama’s charge that Romney was a “corporate raider,” FactCheck took issue again, noting that “corporate raiders are those who lead hostile takeovers of public companies by snapping up publicly traded stock. With Bain Capital, the private investments in companies came at the request of company officials.”
