On the heels of PBS NewsHour host Jim Lehrer’s twelfth turn hosting a presidential debate, CNN’s Candy Crowley has been tapped to step behind the moderator’s podium for the October 16th meeting of Romney and Obama on the campus of Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York.

Although Carole Simpson – an ABC journalist and weekend host of World News Tonight in the late 1980′s – was the first woman to moderate a presidential debate when she presided over a meeting of President George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton in 1992, Crowley is the first woman selected for the role since that date.

The full list of debate locations and moderators can be found on the website of the Commission on Presidential Debates.
