GOP Convention Enters First Full Day

Early in the afternoon, the party will officially nominate Presidential candidate Mitt Romney and Vice Presidential candidate Paul Ryan.

Following a brief opening session, the Republican National Convention enters its first full day Tuesday.

Early in the afternoon, the party will officially nominate Presidential candidate Mitt Romney and Vice Presidential candidate Paul Ryan. Romney’s name will be cast by former New Hampshire Governor and Romney surrogate John Sununu while Wisconsin Republican official Steve King will nominate Ryan.

Republican heavy hitters will take the stage in the evening. Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, who unsuccessfully challenged Romney for the GOP nod, and the candidate’s spouse Ann Romney are set to deliver remarks while New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, a bombastic personality within the party, will give the keynote address.

The convention runs in Tampa, Florida until August 30th. It officially convened on Monday, but the session was truncated due to concerns surrounding the extreme weather in the Gulf Coast.
