House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) on Monday reassured reporters that the presidential race was far from over, despite a recently leaked video that has landed GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney in some rough waters.
“I’m looking forward to the next 46 days, I just hope I survive,” Boehner said jokingly following a closed-door GOP caucus meeting. “This race is far from over.”
When asked whether he supported Romney’s “47 percent” comments, Boehner responded with the poise of a seasoned politician.
“This election is about jobs, we’ve said that for about 20 months and it hasn’t changed,” he said while touting Romney’s business record. “It’s not about anything else.”
Boehner was critical of several recently released polls that have already labeled this election a lost cause for Romney following arguably his worst public relations week of the campaign.
“You look at all this polling, all this political hand wringing by these Washington insiders trying to make this race look like it’s over for the President who is going to win, it’s really quite interesting” he said. “I think that this is a one point race.”
