Don’t Expect UN To Protect Second Amendment

From The Heritage Foundation, I’m Ernest Istook.

If you appreciate how America’s Founding Fathers crafted our Constitution, just imagine if they’d had help from today’s United Nations.

Right now, do-gooders from across the globe are gathered at the UN to protect us. This time it’s not from big threats like nuclear war or global warming. No, this time they want an international treaty to control smaller weapons, namely hand-carried firearms.

The drafters propose that guns must not be allowed to cause instability, nor violate international human rights, which to them means a right to gun control.

Many other countries would just ignore such a treaty, while expecting the USA to honor it—and even enlist our liberal judges to make sure that we do.

Supporters of our Constitution want to be sure that the United Nations never pushes our Second Amendment rights into second place behind some UN treaty.
