U.S. Writes Another Check To Syria

The White House announced today another $12 million in financial assistance to help Syrians that have been impacted by their country's humanitarian crisis.

The White House announced today another $12 million in financial assistance to help Syrians that have been impacted by their country’s humanitarian crisis. The new donation brings the total amount of aid given to the Syrian people over the past 17 months to $76 million.

The non-lethal assistance includes food, water, medial supplies, clothing and other relief to help the roughly 1.5 million people in Syria that are in need of assistance.

The announcement comes on the heels of a revelation that President Obama has authorized a covert U.S. mission to back thousands of rebel fighters who are attempting to topple the regime of Syrian leader Bashar al Assad.

According to Reuters, which first reported the news, the president’s order “broadly permits the CIA and other U.S. agencies to provide support that could help the rebels oust Assad.”

The U.S. State Department has a detailed breakdown of where all the economic aid to Syria has been directed.
